The Keurig is your go-to equipment when it comes to making a piping hot cup of joe effortlessly. All you need to do is pop your favorite K-cup into the machine and push a button. In just a minute, you’ll be able to enjoy the coffee you’ve been craving for!
Hot drinks make a great company for different activities, whether it be your study night or work sprints. However, they’re not always the best choice—especially when the temperatures start to rise and the hotter months begin. You want to keep using your Keurig, but you know deep in your heart that you would rather have a cold drink.
If you’re having the same conflict, don’t worry; there’s no need to abandon your trusty machine! In fact, you can also use it to craft the iced coffee that you’ve been craving for. On top of that, the process is pretty straightforward!
To help you keep cool during the summer, take note of these steps in making iced coffee with your Keurig:
Prepare Your Ice
Before anything else, make sure to prepare the ice you’ll add into your iced coffee. There are two ways to go about this.
If you are using a coffee pod specifically for iced coffee, make your ice cubes with water—the way you usually do. However, if you are using a K-cup for ordinary, hot coffee, make coffee cubes instead.
To do this, pop your preferred K-cup into the Keurig, brew the serving size you need, and pour it into your ice cube tray. Put it straight into the freezer to keep it from going stale. Take note, however, that putting hot objects into your freezer will make the appliance work twice as hard. Avoid straining your unit by making just the right amount of coffee cubes.
Get Your Keurig to the Optimal Temperature
It’s worth remembering that the hotter the temperature, the more flavor you can get from the coffee pod. Considering this, make sure that the inside of your Keurig is at optimal temperature before making your coffee.
All you need to do is fill the reservoir with water, place a large mug on the drip tray, and push the button for a long brew. This will naturally make hot water flow from the Keurig and into your mug. Simply flush the water away when it’s done and your machine is ready to be used!
Get Your Cup Ready
Bring back the ice cubes you prepared earlier and put them into a new, stainless steel cup. Add the cubes until your cup is three-quarters full—make sure to leave enough room for the coffee. Once you’re all set, place it on the drip tray.
Brew Your Coffee
When it comes to brewing your coffee, always choose the smallest brew size. If you want a larger drink, don’t select a larger serving as this will only make your coffee weaker and watery. Rather, use a second K-cup and do the same thing—choose the smallest brew size. This will give you a cup of iced coffee that’s strong and flavorful!
While some prefer their iced coffee black, feel free to add sugar (or sweetener) and milk to your cup to achieve your desired taste.
Your Keurig isn’t only for brewing hot drinks; you can also use it to whip up some iced coffee for the hotter months. All you need to do is follow the simple steps outlined above to satisfy your cravings. While you’re at it, make sure you have enough supply of your favorite coffee pods to help you make it through the next couple of months!
